SEC Teleconference: Mullen Says Bulldogs ‘Angry’ About Loss
On the night before of their teams discussion in Starkville, MSU trainer Dan Mullen and LSU reflection Les Miles took to the SEC coaches teleconference this morning. Miles’ group owns an 11-game winning strain over the Bulldogs, that means nothing to Mullen, but more on that in a moment.
State is perplexing to spring back from a 41-34 loss at Auburn, and it could offer as fuel for tomorrow’s diversion against LSU. The Bulldogs came up only partial final week when quarterback Chris Relf was tackled inches from the objective line as time expired.
“There’s a lot of guys on our team, primarily Chris, that are upset with that loss, since expectations around here have altered a small bit,” Mullen said. “I regard a couple of years ago if you mislaid a difficult diversion to a fortifying national winner team, there was a few disappointment. Now there are a few guys that are angry, since they felt you should’ve won that football game.”
There were lots of engaging explanation from Mullen, so let’s only run down the rest bullet-style.
He fixed that redshirt beginner Blaine Clausell will beginning at left plunge into in place of the harmed James Carmon . “We haven’t used James this week, perplexing to obtain him healthy, perplexing to obtain him ready is to diversion in box you need him in an emergency. Blaine’s type of embraced that and worked hard and is ready for that role.”
Mullen mentioned sophomore LB Chris Hughes , who has been dangling is to initial two games, is putting in service this week. But he did not say either Hughes – a backup at sam linebacker – will play.
“We’ll see, I don’t know. We’ll see. You’ll find out on Thursday. Come to the game, purchase a sheet and see.”
Mullen does not believe in curses, so he doesn’t purchase that explanation for LSU’s prevalence over the Bulldogs.
“We draw close it by subsequent to the outline to win: We’ve got to take caring of the football, fool around great defense, measure in the red region and win the kicking game. That’s how you draw close it, either we’ve beat them 50 true years or we’ve mislaid 50 true years. If you follow that plan, you’re going to win. If you do that, we’ll win; if you don’t, you won’t.”
By the way, Mullen, a outrageous Red Sox fan, mentioned he never believed in the Babe Ruth curse. He hinted that Boston should’ve done a defensive switch at initial bottom late in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series.
On personification LSU 5 days after personification Auburn: “We’ve got to fool around LSU at a few point. We’re personification them correct after Auburn, so you fool around it Thursday, you fool around it Saturday, that’s the SEC when the schedule’s made, those two games are back-to-back, so we’ve got to fool around them. We’re ready to go, go play.”
Mullen moreover voiced his affinity for Thursday games, having coached on that day of the week lots of times at other stops. This is the second Thursday night diversion of the period for MSU.
“I watch every singular Thursday night game, so the entire nation is examination Thursday night football games. So I regard it’s great bearing for your program, that’s why I suffer personification these games.”
Mullen doesn’t regard an 0-2 beginning in the SEC would indispensably finish MSU’s shot at winning the Western Division. “There’s so ample height on our side of the league, and there’s so ample competition. You look, the group that won the East final year (South Carolina) had 3 losses. There’s a lot of football to be played this entire year.”
On building height at linebacker: “We’re getting there bit by bit but surely. We’ve got a few young players that haven’t played a lot of football. We had two guys final year that played a lot of football at that location over the formerly two years. That height is growing. We have players, but you have to obtain them SEC ready to play, and they’re still developing.”
And right away for a few golden nuggets from Miles.
On his many engaging postgame handshakes (he laughed, then answered): “Well, there are several to be honest. I are unaware that it benefits my correlation or those people who I would discuss it the story about. The communications postgame I can discuss it you goes from wishing you good and bargain the diversion that you only played, to no difference and type of a glance and a deafening noise.”
On the awaiting LSU gap its period on a Thursday night, as MSU did: “Personally, I do agree to the skill to beginning the period early on a Thursday night. To me, that’s optimal. If I could beginning a Thursday night diversion at home to beginning my period at home on a Thursday night and then have 10 days before the next game, I regard that’d be preferred, to be honest.”
On a few of the logistical challenges of scheming during a edited week: “You take time to unqualified a diversion plan. In other words, you put it in, you work it some, you see how you similar to it, then may be that’s not actually how you wish to do it, and you pierce it a bit, and it develops via the week.”
Take a bow, Les.
